A Scary Moment, Made Easy

Before you arrive
  • Add important numbers to your phone (parents/guardians, Homestay family member(s), school contacts)
  • Get to know your Homestay family
  • Share your flight information and arrival times with your Homestay family
  • Make sure your students finances (debit/credit/visa, cash) can work in Canada
  • Get a Canadian phone plan, international students have the option to choose a great cell phone plan from Phonebox. You can find Monthly plans or Prepaid plans. Phonebox also support E-sim so students can setup the phone prior to arriving.
Packing your bags

Be sure to check with your airplane on weight limits for your carry-on and checked baggage

Bring the following in your carry-on,

  • Passport
  • Cell phone, charger
  • Laptop (recommended, not required)
  • Money
  • A change of clothes, if luggage is delayed
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Visa, or eTA or ‘Immigration Canada Letter of Introduction for a Study Permit’ or Study Permit (if you are a returning student)
  • Custondianship Documents
  • International Student Official Letter of Acceptance
  • Picture of Homestay guardians and contact information
  • Snacks & water bottle
  • Prescription medication (if required)
Prepare for immigration
  • Your passport, eTA or Visitor Visa, or Immigration Canada ‘Letter of Acceptance for a Study Permit’ or Study Permit (if you are a returning student)
  • If you have an Immigration Canada ‘Letter of Introduction for a Study Permit’, this is where you will receive your Study Permit
  • The barcode on this letter MUST be scanned while you are at the Immigration area
  • Please make sure the Immigration Officer prints and gives you your study permit BEFORE leaving the immigration area
  • Your Lakehead Public Schools International Program Official Letter of Acceptance
To enter Canada
  • Passport
  • ‘Immigration Canada Letter of Introduction for a Study Permit,’ or eTA, or Visitors Visa
  • Lakehead Public Schools International Program Official Letter of Acceptance
  • Custodian Declaration
