My experience so far of attending Sir Winston Churchill CVI has been extremely rewarding. My classes have been lively and engaging, thanks to the dynamic teachers I’ve had. Being in the IB program, I have developed close bonds with many of the students at the school, and the general vibe here is warm and inviting. Being a student here has given me a lot of freedom, and has strongly encouraged my self-expression. Moving to Canada, Thunder Bay was initially a place that I didn’t think I would like at all. However, after two years here, I have come to love the community feeling; the ease; and the opportunities present in this city. I have so many amazing memories here already, its hard to pick just one, but some of them include: My service trip to Ecuador this year with some of my classmates; attending National We Day; singing at organized events; Student Government and just generally making great friends with people here. Coming from Brittan, sometimes people don\t think there are that many differences in schooling between there and Canada. I say otherwise; In my experience, the British education system is a lot more rigid, with a heavy focus on academic achievement and a lack of encouragement towards extra-curricular development. Here there are so many opportunities presented to you that there isn’t an excuse for someone to not become an all-rounded individual with extensive community involvement. The trust given to students here, if used well, can be incredibly liberating. Attending a Lakehead Public School, I’ve seen my personality and confidence develop in a way that I could never have anticipated, and with that, I feel more confident and ready to take on new challenges in the future.
