I am Mila, 16 years old and I spent my exchange time here in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The city has about 110 000 inhabitants and it has a beautiful nature. During my stay I went to Hammarskjold High school, and I really liked it there. I love the school spirit and that the school offers so many sport clubs or other activities. You only pick 4 courses which is really nice. My courses for the semester were Drama, French, Math, and Cosmetology. The last one was my favorite because I learned how to work with hair and it was the only course I had with my close friends. In general, you have more opportunities for courses. You can learn sign language, or you can take a wood working class. At the weekends I often did things with friends like going to the mall or go swimming. In my group of friends, the majority are international students, but I am also friends with Canadians. The first week at school was a little bit hard because I was completely lost in school and didn’t know where to go. Luckily, I met my friends at my first day at school, so I didn’t have to eat lunch alone. My English improved a lot, I learned new vocabulary and just got more confidence by speaking English. I have a good relationship with my host family. I went hiking with my host mum or went to church on Sundays. We also did trips together like going to Minneapolis. In July we will go to Niagara Falls and Toronto and I am really looking forward to going there. Now I really want to enjoy the last days of school. Honestly, I am not ready to leave this life behind me! This place became a home for me, and I met amazing people that I will miss. I learned new things like skiing, and I just got more confident and more independent. The whole program gave me an incredible experience with great memories.
